smoothie + granolaMay was almost like a kitchen sabbatical. I made smoothies. I made some salads. I cooked dinner maybe twice. And that was pretty much it.

I consumed multiple kale salads from La Mo. I ate dinner at other people’s houses (gracias, Mrs. Johnson!). I ate a lot of my favorite granola from Trader Joe’s.

So I know that’s not inspiring or anything… but it was real life this month, and that’s okay with me :)

what i cooked | februaryFebruary was so cold, guys. I stayed in most days, constantly reminded of one of the main reasons why I dislike these states in the middle of the US (no offense to the residents… I’m [a reluctant] one myself).

If January was all about ice cream, February was all about bread. I made a lot of bread. Cinnamon rolls, scones, waffles, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.

There was some ice cream too, of course.

The edited photos have just been sitting pretty in Lightroom for 9 days, while I try to overcome a case of writers’ block. What ends up on my blog is, for one reason or another, only a fraction of the things I actually make in any given month. Most often it’s because the scones I made at 8pm can’t be photographed at that time, or I’m unwilling to let my portion of the dinner I made for my family get cold while I take it outside to take pictures. We enjoy everything that I share on here, and some things are just easier to intercept before we dig in :)

Anyways, I’m always looking for ways to infuse a bit more real life into this space, and also to share those things which I make after dark. Continue reading

I would seriously get frostbite, and that fact can be corroborated by the national weather service, or whoever it is that gets to state “truth” about the weather.

So today is the perfect day to share a recipe that I made a few weeks ago but never posted! These cute little things are from this month’s issue of Bon Appetit magazine, and when I came across them on the first read-through, I ran to the freezer to see if I still had some hazelnuts on hand.
