Let’s not mention the little fact that it’s been, uh, exactly three weeks and two days since my last post, okay? Sorry guys! It occurred to me that a brief perusal of this blog would lead you to believe that I basically only ever eat sweet things and carb-y things. I mean, 1/5 of the first page of recent posts fits into either or both of those categories.
Simply- that is not all I eat. In reality, I practically eat my weight in salad each week, and then I eat my weight again in miscellaneous fruits and vegetables at breakfast and dinner. I eat a lot of tacos too, but that’s irrelevant for our purposes today. Continue reading
The word “bakewell” has come up several times during my travels through the interwebs as of late, always in conjunction with the word “tart.” Now I obviously know what a tart is, but I confess I really had no idea what bakewell meant and had never looked it up.
A bit of research revealed that Bakewell is a town in England, and judging by the name, I think I’d love to live there. (Can you imagine how cool it would be if Josey Baker baked his bread in Bakewell, England? I digress.) Continue reading

The blog break was simply a bi-product of so many lunches out (or hurried lunches in) and dinners out or at houses of friends, etc. It was nice. I don’t feel guilty. This little space has always been a natural reflection of my daily life through food, and I hope to keep it that way. Clearly, what it’s been reflecting recently is that I’ve been away, resting and recharging. (Kind of like when my phone battery gets really really low in the middle of the day and I have to go plug it in on the desk and go without it for a while.) I’m back now though, ready to go, and excited about the next few months and what they’ll bring. Continue reading
Happy New Year! I hope your 2014 is going along quite well, as mine is.
On the first day of the year, I celebrated my 20th birthday. Today, I am currently experiencing my first ever “snow day”… the college is closed because of weather. When I woke up this morning, the temperature was -7 degrees and felt like -23 degrees. Those are numbers I have a hard time wrapping my mind around, especially when they relate to the weather. There’s this cookie in the baked goods case at Whole Foods that I kind of have a thing for. It’s very similar to this cookie I’m sharing with you today, but no frills. Just plain chocolate, topped with walnuts. I think it’s the only thing in the case that’s gluten free, but I’m not complaining because I’d buy it anyways, even if I had a choice.
The “Cocoa Chewy” at Whole Foods is very chocolatey, very chewy (you’d hope so, right, since it’s called that), and almost brownie-like in texture. Kind of a brownie/cookie hybrid. An obvious choice! Continue reading
Today begins the three-day countdown to 41 whole days off of school, and I can hardly wait. Within the week I will be spending 8 days in the South Texas sun. Then I’m going to see the city of Austin, which I’ve heard so much about lately, for the first time ever. I’ll have less than a day to spend there, but that’s more than fine with me because my brother and I are hopping on a late afternoon flight to Oakland to spend 24 days at home! I suppose you could say I’m excited ;) Continue reading
Like homemade croutons, sugar-coated almonds can take any salad from everyday to exceptional in about 20 minutes. They also make for a dangerously addicting but super delicious snack.
