lately / recent work

IMG_3837My poor little neglected blog. Hello, readers that haven’t given up on me yet! Thanks for sticking around through this unusual season :) Today I’d like to show you a bit of what I’ve been up to lately (since I obviously haven’t been blogging).

Last month I got to work at two weddings in the Bay Area with the best caterers. My main job once dinner rolled around was serving tables, but before that time, I was asked to photograph appetizers and as many other dishes as possible. I felt super honored to be asked to do that, and prayed for good lighting and good photos :) In the end, I was pleased and Gemma & Murray were pleased, plus I had a ton of fun.

P.S. Those Mango Panna Cottas pictured above? Sometimes I dream about them. Continue reading

what i cooked | may

smoothie + granolaMay was almost like a kitchen sabbatical. I made smoothies. I made some salads. I cooked dinner maybe twice. And that was pretty much it.

I consumed multiple kale salads from La Mo. I ate dinner at other people’s houses (gracias, Mrs. Johnson!). I ate a lot of my favorite granola from Trader Joe’s.

So I know that’s not inspiring or anything… but it was real life this month, and that’s okay with me :)

P.S. You need to be eating blueberries right now. They’re SO good this year!!!

what i cooked | april

asparagusApril. What a month. Don’t you love months that throw you for a loop in the best way possible? That was April.

On a Monday at the beginning of April I was informed that we would be driving home for a couple of months… the next day. So I packed (I’m becoming quite pro at last-minute packing), we drove, we arrived, and I started doing all the things (except cooking/baking). It’s been wonderful so far, and I can’t even tell you how glad I am to have at least another whole month of this.

Just so you know, I do hope to spend some more time in the kitchen in May. And I do hope to post more here. A stack of cookbooks from the library is sitting on my floor and there are so many recipes that I’m eager to make!!

And now if you will excuse me, I’m just gonna go eat lunch at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants… :)

what i cooked | march

strawberriesHappy last day of March, friends!

Are you ready to talk about what we made this month? Below is a list of what I made, and I’d like to know what you made too. Comment with your favorite thing you cooked or baked (or didn’t cook/bake, since… ICE CREAM) in March, and leave a link to the recipe if possible :)

Also, is there anything that you’re dying to make next month? Do tell!

what i cooked | february

what i cooked | februaryFebruary was so cold, guys. I stayed in most days, constantly reminded of one of the main reasons why I dislike these states in the middle of the US (no offense to the residents… I’m [a reluctant] one myself).

If January was all about ice cream, February was all about bread. I made a lot of bread. Cinnamon rolls, scones, waffles, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.

There was some ice cream too, of course.

what i cooked | january

brussels sproutsHappy Saturday, folks!

What ends up on my blog is, for one reason or another, only a fraction of the things I actually make in any given month. Most often it’s because the scones I made at 8pm can’t be photographed at that time, or I’m unwilling to let my portion of the dinner I made for my family get cold while I take it outside to take pictures. We enjoy everything that I share on here, and some things are just easier to intercept before we dig in :)

Anyways, I’m always looking for ways to infuse a bit more real life into this space, and also to share those things which I make after dark. Continue reading

21 + red wine chocolate cake with whipped mascarpone

IMG_9725Today is the first day of a new calendar year, and also the first day of my 21st year on this earth. I have never posted about my birthday in the past couple years of blogging, but 21 is kind of a big deal, I suppose, so I figured I should start now. Continue reading

i’m back! + chocolate almond milkshakes

IMG_5261Wow… I kind of fell off the blogging bandwagon for a while, didn’t I? I didn’t mean to do it. Life just kind of happened and suddenly I found myself at home for two months, where I happily soaked up every single minute spent in the places I love with people I love.

While away, I…

participated in the August Break photography challenge.
met a blogger friend in real life for the first time. (Check out her gorgeous new blog!)
hiked in Yosemite.
spent quite a few random days in the city.
shot senior photos for the first time.
tried to slow down and be aware of little details.

The blog break was simply a bi-product of so many lunches out (or hurried lunches in) and dinners out or at houses of friends, etc. It was nice. I don’t feel guilty. This little space has always been a natural reflection of my daily life through food, and I hope to keep it that way. Clearly, what it’s been reflecting recently is that I’ve been away, resting and recharging. (Kind of like when my phone battery gets really really low in the middle of the day and I have to go plug it in on the desk and go without it for a while.) I’m back now though, ready to go, and excited about the next few months and what they’ll bring. Continue reading

i have been eating.

[mahi mahi taco and mixed greens.]

It’s been 22 days since my last recipe post. Even though my blog has suffered while I travelled home, my stomach has not by any means. I thought you may like to see some photos of what I’ve been eating lately? Maybe you’ll find some inspiration for things to recreate :) Continue reading
